Lexile: 300L-400L This 8-page book can be printed and arranged to use for guided reading purposes in small group instruction. It was written as an adaptation from Helen Keller’s autobiography, The Story of My Life. The actual book may not be accessible to students new to English, special education students, students reading below grade level, as well as young readers. The little book tells the story of how Helen Keller learned what words were, and that she can use her hands to communicate. Included with the book are a set of vocabulary cards with pictures for pre-teaching new vocabulary, and a sequence of events chart that can be used as an after-reading activity.

This reading kit is designed to support students new to English, special education students, young readers, and students reading below grade level gain access to the story of Hachiko. The kit includes a little book at a 500L lexile level (2nd grade) that cat be cut and arranged for guided reading instruction. It is a modified version of the story of Hachiko by Pamela S. Turner The kit includes an 11 page little book telling the story of Hachiko, a set of vocabulary word cards, and a plot map graphic organizer for retelling.

One of the greatest way to help a child learn to read and write is by using “Making Words” activities. This word building set includes a printout with 8 of each 26 letters and 4 diagraph (sh, ch, th, wh) for cutting out. A set of Elkonin boxes is included, which can be used as a mat with space for making words with three, four and five phonemes. Making word lists are given so you can guide your students. The lists are in order of difficulty from easiest to hardest.

This bundle includes 4 sets of dolche site word cards from the pre-primer, primer, first-grade, second-grade and third-grade word lists. When the dual-language sets are printed double sided, these flash cards of dolch site words have English on one side, and the targeted translation on the back. It is helpful if you are trying to give meaning to site words to students who are learning to read while simultaneously beginning to learn English. These word cards are a sentence building activity. Students can move the cards to create sentences that they can then transfer into writing. Each word card includes a familiar emoji from the emoji lists used all over the world. Students previously exposed to technology will already have background knowledge on these images, and will be able to apply those images to both support them in learning new vocabulary, as well as support visual learners learning how to read and write. The cards are organized under five subheadings: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and other. The 'other' section includes suffixes, articles and prepositions. Blank cards are included in the file to allow teachers to create additional cards not included in the set.
